Raise your plate and give yourself a “Toast” because you just made a healthy breakfast in 5 minutes flat. After having an argument discussion with my sister I have just discovered that many people either eat a” crappy” breakfast or skip it all together. Just so we are all on the same page, when I say crappy I mean horrible. I took an unofficial, unscientific poll of horrible breakfasts. Top of the list was cold pizza, Oreo’s and Triscuts. Really? In an article written in Runner’s World magazine by Liz Applegate, PD, dieters who had eggs for breakfast achieved a 60 percent greater weight loss. Compare that to those who began their day with a calorie-equivalent bagel. No contest. Researchers theorize the quality protein in whole eggs (13 percent of the Daily Value) helps control appetite.
Ingredients:
1 slice whole grain bread toasted
1 egg cooked over medium
1 tbsp crumbled feta cheese
5 grape tomatoes quartered
1 green onion chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
1/8 tsp oregano (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
The biggest “ditch a meal” reason is time, I know that. While your egg is cooking, place bread in toaster and gather/prep ingredients. I always have grape tomatoes on hand because you can quarter them easily. When your egg is done, place on toast and add remainder of ingredients. Enjoy! You’re worth five minutes. You are.
